Investigation and documentation procedures in cases of torture

The Institute for Human Rights of the Beirut Bar Association has opened its activities for the year 2019 with a training course on 17 and 18 January 2019 on “Investigation and documentation procedures in cases of torture”, organized in cooperation with Restart Center for rehabilitation of victims of violence and torture, second in this field.

The course dealt with Lebanese laws that protect against torture and principles and procedures set forth for cases of torture. It also focused on the role of lawyers in the prevention of torture, providing support and assistance to victims, as well as mechanisms for gathering evidence and for effective documentation in cases of torture.

The training was conducted by the Attorney General of Mount Lebanon Judge Nazek Al Khatib, the Chief Executive Officer of the Restart Center and member of the United Nations Subcommittee on prevention of torture, Mrs. Suzanne Jabbour and the Director of the institute, Attorney Elisabeth Zakharia Sioufi.

At the end of the course, certificates were distributed to lawyers who have attended and participated in the practical work.
